For almost two years SEDA has a dedicated student support service. We can help if you have issues with classes, every day life in Dublin, finding accommodation, health or social activities. All your questions, opinions, complaints and suggestions are very welcome – just talk to us!
Over the past year SEDA’s student support team assisted dozens of students with a vast number of issues. One of the biggest issues raised was finding accommodation in Dublin. SEDA’s support team helped many students by providing accommodation listings, going through them with the student and arranging viewings.
Just as important for many was finding part-time work. SEDA’s support team helped by assisting with CV preparation, giving valuable job-finding tips and sometimes even referring students to employers.
Additionally, over the course of the last year SEDA’s support workers accompanied 3 students to the Garda station to help them make a report in English. They are also usually the first point of contact in case a student has any medical issues.
The students’ interaction with the support team also helps SEDA prepare the ideal extracurricular event programme. SEDA is huge on extracurricular activities: from July to December last year we offered 370 hours of free extra activities, and in 2016 as a whole there were a total of 665 hours of workshops, seminars, get-togethers, volunteering…
Here are just some of the activities that were organised based on student feedback:
- Study groups for PET, FCE and IELTS exams.
- Workshops with or related to food and cooking
- Life Coaching workshops for self-motivation
- “Pimp your CV” seminars and LinkedIn workshops
- Arts and crafts workshops
- Parties. SEDA used to do student parties on Thursdays since pubs are cheaper on Thursdays, but we noticed that attendance always dropped the following Friday, so we have moved the parties to Fridays… and most students are happy with the change!
- Cultural parties: every month or two we celebrate the culture of a country represented at SEDA. Recently we had cultural parties for Panama and Costa Rica and very soon we will celebrate Chinese New Year!
Every SEDA student is very welcome to contact our friendly support team with questions, suggestions and complaints. The support team also sends out an email questionnaire regularly. When you get one next time, make sure to fill it out – we really value your feedback!
