Trinity CertTESOL is the full Trinity Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, a Level 5 qualification on the Ofqual Regulated Qualifications Framework. The course has 130 contact hours and a maximum cohort size of 15. It includes these units: Teaching Skills (74 hours), Language Awareness and Skills (20 hours), Learner Profile (18 hours), Materials Assignment (8 hours), and Unknown Language (10 hours). Trainees must pass each unit. The €1,300 course fee includes the CertTESOL Companion. After acceptance, a non-refundable €400 deposit secures a place; the remaining balance is due at least three weeks before the course starts.
Trainees complete guided observations and supervised teaching practice with SEDA College English classes, under the observation of an experienced teacher and CertTESOL tutor. Learners are notified at the beginning of the week and may move to a regular class if they prefer not to take part in lessons involving trainees.
Applicants must be at least 18 and have C1 English proficiency. A QQI-recognised Level 7 qualification or equivalent undergraduate degree is normally required; applicants without it may be considered where they demonstrate relevant experience, skills and aptitude. To apply, contact SEDA College and follow the sign-up link to the pre-course interview. Successful applicants attend a meeting about two weeks before the course starts and submit the pre-course task on day one; the task is a prerequisite, not a course assessment. Completing CertTESOL alone does not meet Irish English-language-teacher employment qualification requirements.
