SEDA College is now providing an accredited CertTESOL course from Trinity College London

SEDA has now the license from Trinity College London to offer the CertTesol course. According to Trinity “Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CertTESOL) is a TESOL or TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate designed for people with little or no experience of teaching English, and for those with experience who require an internationally recognised initial teacher education qualification”.

The course has the same value as a CELTA certification, which also is widely accepted in Ireland. The course is a 7-week programme, which consists of 130 contact hours.  The first 3 weeks are timetabled from 16:30 until 18:30. These weeks will focus on input sessions relating to Language Awareness & Skills, Unknown Language, Teaching Skills, Learner Profile, Materials Assignment as well as  Supervised Lesson Planning & Teaching Practice feedback. There will be no coursework during these first three weeks that requires engagement with language learners.

The following 4 weeks are timetabled from 13:00 until 18:30. The early afternoon sessions are given up to practical, language teaching and learning related activities such as guided observations, teaching practice, assignment preparation, and workshops. This will require active engagement with language learners.

The CertTESOL is rated at Level 5 on Ofqual’s Regulated Qualifications Framework, a comparable level to the second year of an undergraduate degree
