A Little About Barbara
Barbara is originally from Brazil and spent a transformative year living in Ireland—an experience she describes as the best year of her life.
She first connected with SEDA College through the mentorship programme “Se Vai Bora” and became friends with one of the managers. This friendship opened the door for Barbara to join the amazing SEDA team.
“Since I was very young, people said I was too much of a dreamer for my reality. But I believe that for those who dream, nothing is impossible,” Barbara shares passionately.
This philosophy drives her work and has made her a valuable asset to the SEDA College family.
A Day in the Life of Barbara
As an exchange consultant, Barbara’s role covers every stage of the student journey. From explaining how exchange programmes work to post-sales support, Barbara ensures students are well-prepared and confident about their move to Ireland.
Working remotely from Blumenau, Brazil, a typical day for Barbara involves student consultations via WhatsApp and meetings on Google Meet. She supports students with documentation, pre-departure preparation, and follow-ups after their arrival, helping them settle into life in Ireland by offering guidance on accommodation, employment, and more.
Her ultimate goal? To show students that achieving their dreams is not only possible but also incredibly rewarding.
The Most Rewarding Part of the Job
For Barbara, the most gratifying aspect of her job is proving that an exchange dream isn’t out of reach. She recalls moments when students and their families thanked her for the guidance and support she provided to make their dreams a reality.
“Offering flexible payment plans, holding calls with parents, and sharing advice are all part of the journey I love to be part of,” Barbara says.
Barbara’s love for Ireland stems from the warmth and hospitality she experienced during her time there. From her work in home care to jobs in a café and a restaurant, she felt embraced by the Irish people she met along the way.
Her favourite Irish tradition? Halloween! Barbara also recommends students try tea with milk—a quintessential Irish experience that might surprise you in the best way.
Living in Ireland and working at SEDA shaped Barbara’s perspective profoundly. “It was the answer to a lifelong question for me. I discovered new cultures, new opportunities, and even a deeper appreciation for my home country. It’s an experience that’s truly indescribable.”
Words of Advice for Students
For students already in Ireland, Barbara has this to say: “Explore Ireland! The country is magical. While it’s important to work, don’t let that be your only focus in the beginning. Look at Ireland through the eyes of a tourist, and you’ll fall in love with everything it has to offer.”
