Today, we’re excited to introduce Aoife Byrne, one of the friendly faces students will meet on campus. Here’s a look into her journey, her role at SEDA, and her advice for students!
Getting to Know Aoife
Aoife Byrne hails from Dublin, Ireland, and her journey to SEDA was somewhat serendipitous. “I’m originally from Dublin, and while I was applying for jobs, I came across an opportunity at SEDA,” she shares. “I didn’t know much about working in an English language school, but I decided to give it a go. I’m so glad I did!”
As part of the team at SEDA, Aoife’s day-to-day is all about supporting students. “My main responsibilities include helping students find their classes, booking exams, and answering their questions,” she explains. “I also update attendance records and speak with students face-to-face, which I really enjoy.” Every day is different, but Aoife’s dedication to helping students remains constant.
When asked about the most rewarding part of her role, Aoife lights up. “It’s amazing to see students grow in confidence with their English,” she says. “I’ve had students who, on their first day, only wanted to speak in their native language. Then, just a few weeks later, they’re eager to chat with me in English—and even pronounce my name correctly!” Moments like these make her work truly fulfilling.
Life in Ireland
For Aoife, living in Ireland offers endless opportunities to connect with nature and culture. “One of my favourite spots is the Howth Cliff Walk. The views are stunning, and it’s a great way to experience Ireland’s natural beauty,” she says. She also recommends diving into Irish sporting culture. “Watching a hurling or football match is something everyone should experience at least once!”
Working at SEDA and interacting with students from around the globe has broadened Aoife’s perspective. “I’ve learned so much about different cultures and people’s lives in other countries,” she reflects. “It’s truly inspiring and has made me appreciate diversity even more.”
Tips and Motivation for Students
Aoife has some practical advice for students already in Ireland. “Travel around and explore the beauty of Ireland, but also stay on top of important things like keeping your visa or GNIB/IRP card up-to-date,” she advises. “Staying organized will save you unnecessary stress later on.”
For those considering studying in Ireland, Aoife offers some heartfelt encouragement. “It’s better to say, ‘I’ve done it,’ than to wonder, ‘What if?’” she says. “Studying in Ireland is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you’ll never regret. It’s an opportunity to grow, learn, and create unforgettable memories.”
