Starting from 13th January 2025, all student visa (IRP) registrations in Ireland will be managed by Immigration Service Delivery (ISD), taking over from the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB). If you’re coming to Ireland as an international student, registering your permission is a key step in your journey. Here’s everything you need to know about the process!
What is the IRP?
The Irish Residence Permit (IRP) is an official card that proves you have permission to stay in Ireland as a student. If you’re studying for more than 90 days, you must register your immigration permission and get an IRP.
What Documents Do I Need?
When attending your appointment, bring the following:
- Your passport (must be valid)
- Your letter of enrolment from your Irish college or university
- Proof of health insurance
- Proof of sufficient funds (e.g., bank statement, sponsor letter)
- Your proof of address in Ireland
- €300 registration fee (paid by card only)
Tip: Make sure all your documents are up-to-date and in the correct format to avoid delays!
What Happens at the Appointment?
During your appointment:
- Your documents will be checked
- Your biometric details (fingerprints and photo) will be taken
- You’ll pay the €300 registration fee
- Once approved, your IRP card will be posted to you within a few weeks
