Winning a sports title is difficult anywhere in the world. Doing it in another country, just a few months after arriving, playing in an official competition in Ireland — that’s a story worth telling.
That’s exactly what Victor Aranha, José Martins, and Richard Belmiro, three students from SEDA College who are part of the Pro Brazil FC team, experienced.
Last weekend, the team won the AUL Cup, one of Ireland’s futsal championships, in a thrilling final against Blue Magic. The score was 1-1 in regulation time, and Pro Brazil took the trophy on penalties.
A breathtaking final
The AUL Cup brought together the best futsal teams in Ireland in a single-game final — the most intense format there is. There’s no second chance, no return match. It’s all or nothing in 40 minutes, and if it’s a draw, it goes to penalties.
Blue Magic opened the scoring, and the match was closely contested from start to finish. When the final whistle blew with the score at 1-1, the decision went to penalty kicks.
It was at this moment that Victor Aranha, the Pro Brazil goalkeeper, stepped into the game. With a year in Ireland under his belt and the experience that comes with it, he was crucial in keeping the team’s nerves calm and securing the historic victory.
When the final penalty went in, the celebration was on. Pro Brazil FC’s first title in Ireland. And three SEDA students were at the center of that celebration.
A dream that seemed distant
Victor Aranha arrived in Ireland a year ago. José Martins and Richard Belmiro, five months ago. A short time for those who came from Brazil with their heads full of plans and their English still in its infancy.
But enough time to show what they are capable of on and off the pitch.
Victor and Richard are scholarship recipients at SEDA College, having earned their places through the SEDA Dream program, and today they are living in practice what many still dream of: studying, working, and competing on European soil.
In the players’ own words, playing in Europe was a dream that seemed distant. Something that existed more in their imagination than in concrete plans.
But exchange programs have this power: they put you in a new environment, full of opportunities you didn’t even know existed. And suddenly, in less than a year, you’re lifting a trophy in Ireland.
More than just football
It’s tempting to look at this story as a sporting achievement. And it is, of course. But it says much more than that. It speaks of adaptation — the ability to arrive in a new country, learn a language, understand a different culture, and still find your place.
It speaks of community — because Pro Brazil FC is much more than a futsal team. It’s a network of Brazilians who support each other, who put down roots together, and who proudly represent Brazil in Ireland.
And she talks about confidence — the confidence that grows when you realize you are capable of much more than you imagined before embarking on this journey. Victor, José, and Richard came here to learn English. And they are learning that and much more.

Pro Brazil FC still has more ahead this season. The team will compete in a semifinal of the Irish Futsal League, with the grand final scheduled for early May.
