SEDA College student wins Jiu jitsu Championship in Germany

Born in Manaus, Erick Souza won first place in the important Jiu-Jitsu championship called Naga.

Newly arrived in Europe, Erick started studying at SEDA College two weeks ago, and training at the jiu-jitsu academy JSBJJ.

And due to his outstanding performance at the academy, he attracted sponsorship from the school to compete here in Ireland and in Germany, where he secured his first belt.

“I’ve been fighting since I was 12 years old, it’s been more than 13 years practising this martial art that transformed my life. Through sports, I was able to leave my city and see the world. Without a doubt, jiu-jitsu showed me that it was my right choice. I recommend it to everyone, it can be as a hobby, or as a lifestyle like mine. Sport is always the best option.”, said Erick.

Plans for the future

Erick states that his goals are to continue here, in Europe: “Competing is what I want. Here in Europe, there are several prestigious championships, and being able to participate and dream of the first place is what I want”.

The black belt, who is currently giving specialized classes to athletes who want to compete, also said that he intends to improve his English and that education and sport go hand in hand: “I came here with the dream of learning English too, so I can communicate with more safety in international championships”.

The sportsman never doubted his ability to fight and overcome challenges, and came to Europe confident: “I have a lot of faith in God, and I know that He has enabled me to overcome all my challenges, whether on the mat or in life”.

And the next championship is already booked: at the end of June, the black belt already has a scheduled presence at the Grappling Kings.

Let’s cheer for him!
