Irish Cinema at SEDA College: one week of movies!

Everybody knows the importance of watching movies. Not only to improve your English skills, getting more vocabulary but as part of your development as a person. This time, taking advantage of St Patrick’s month, we are having at the student lounge an Irish cinema session with movies made in Ireland and about Ireland. This is a very good opportunity for you to know a little bit more about the history of this lovely and culturally rich country. Come and enjoy the Irish Cinema at SEDA. Brace yourselves. Take your seat, enjoy your the popcorn, because it’s cinema time!

You can find a list below according to each day of St. Patrick’s week. Here it goes:

Monday 12th: Michael Collins (1996)

A very important name for the Irish revolution in the 20th century. Michael Collings led the Irish troops against the British towards independence.

Tuesday 13th: The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006)

A young doctor is invited to work in London, but after an assassination, he decides to join the Irish Republican Army and some political events take place in the meantime.

Wednesday 14th: Bloody Sunday (2002)

A protest march in 1972 turned into a riot when British soldiers opened fire on the defenseless crowd in Derry, Northern Ireland. Bloody Sunday shows through Ivan Cooper’s (James Nesbitt) view how it was this unfortunate but remarkable day to Ireland.

Thursday 15th: Breakfast on Pluto (2006)

The story revolves around Patrick (Cillian Murphy), a baby abandoned that ended up in an abusive foster home. As a teenager, Patrick identifies himself as a transgender, changes his name and settle in London with a rock group.

Five Minutes of Heaven

In 1970s Northern Ireland, young Joe Griffin watches in horror as the teenage leader of a UVF cell shoots Joe’s brother dead. Thirty years later, peace is at hand, and Joe (James Nesbitt) is to meet his brother’s killer, Alistair Little (Liam Neeson), on live TV. Unbeknownst to the TV crew, Joe is not there to reconcile with Alistair but to kill him.
