Are you prepared to live in Ireland? Find out here

Forget money, the approval of your parents or work, there are other aspects to take into account if you want to live in Ireland, and these are much more important than all the other steps.

As you can imagine, moving to another country is not just sleeping in another house, it is adapting to a new culture, food, society, climate, among others.

So you think you’re ready to come to Ireland? Here are some questions for you to think about.

THE FIRST QUESTION IS THE MORT STRAIGHTFORWARD, DO YOU LIKE GOING TO PARTIES?

If you answered YES, read the first answer. If you answered NO, read the second answer.

1- If you are one of those people who like having a few beers, going out and celebrate with friends, then we have good news for you! One of the most striking features of the Irish is that they love going out and having fun with their friends drinking a few pints (beer glasses). In addition, it is estimated that there are almost 800 pubs in Dublin.

2- But wait! If you are not one of those who like going out every day or drinking beer, don’t worry as there are also activities for those who want to do something quieter. There are many museums and art galleries in Ireland, and some famous authors like Oscar Wilde are from this country, for example. In Ireland, you will also find one of the largest parks in Europe, Phoenix Park, where you can do leisure activities.

THE SECOND QUESTION IS: DO YOU LIKE WALKING?

Living in the city centre and surroundings means walking, walking everywhere, and also means saving money (no public transportation needed). So if you are not used to walking, start practising.

But don’t worry, there is always a way! If you live far from the city centre you can get a Student Leap Card. This card costs €10 and you have to recharge it every week or month to use public transport (bus, Luas or Dart). Another option is to buy a bike or use the Dublin Bikes, which has an annual fee.

AND THE LAST QUESTION, BUT NOT LEAST, DO YOU LIKE COLD WEATHER?

Ireland’s weather is cold and windy. The day can start very rainy, then the sun rises and snows, which is rare, but it can happen. We will not lie to you, it can be a bit stressful to live here because the weather is very unpredictable.

In the winter it can get very cold, but if you are not used to it don’t worry, the whole school has heaters, just like most houses and shops, and while you are outside, nothing that a good jacket and a scarf can’t solve.
