From a Dream to Dublin: Where It All Started
André’s journey began with a social media post by SEDA College about a new scholarship opportunity.
“I’ve always dreamed of studying in Ireland with SEDA. After seeing the post, I spoke to Amanda, and she shared it with Márcio, my mentor in the Cidade de Deus project. He then arranged a call with Tiago at SEDA, and that’s how everything started.”
What began as a distant dream soon turned into a life-changing reality.
Adjusting to Life in Ireland
Moving to a new country is never easy, especially when you don’t speak the language. But André adapted quickly.
“I really felt the cold during the first week,” he says with a laugh, “but after that, I adjusted surprisingly fast.”
His positive attitude and resilience helped him settle into Irish life smoothly — something many international students relate to.

“SEDA has been the foundation of everything — learning, work, and even accommodation. The support I’ve received has been incredible.”
André arrived in Dublin with zero English, but after just three months, he’s already seeing huge improvements.

First Work Experience in Ireland
One of the biggest challenges for new students is finding their first job. But for André, that happened quickly.
“Thanks to God — and of course, to Tiago — I got a job in a restaurant during my second week in Dublin.”
He started as a kitchen porter, washing dishes. But with hard work and dedication, he’s already moved up:
“Now I’m helping in the kitchen, preparing food and managing the buffet. It’s a completely new experience and I’m learning so much.”
