At SEDA College, our team is what makes us truly special. Today, we’re excited to introduce one of our standout teachers, Sérgio da Silva. His story is inspiring, his teaching style is dynamic, and his enthusiasm for helping students achieve their dreams is unmatched. Let’s dive into Sérgio’s journey!
From Car Washer to Teacher Extraordinaire
Sérgio’s career path has been anything but ordinary. Over the years, he’s worn many hats—from car washer to probation officer. But it was his love for languages and a pivotal exchange programme in Canada that set him on the path to teaching English. Upon his return to Brazil, Sérgio found himself immersed in the world of language education, where he discovered his true calling.
“I already liked this universe of speaking other languages,” he explains. “After my exchange programme, so many fantastic doors opened, and I became an English teacher.”
Joining the SEDA College Family
Sérgio’s connection with SEDA College began when he inquired about the Trinity CertTESOL course. Shortly after, he became a cover teacher, and, as he puts it, “voilà”—a new chapter in his teaching career began. Today, Sérgio is a full-time teacher in Dublin and plays a key role in the Junior Summer Programme in Galway.
He’s quick to highlight the diverse and supportive environment at SEDA: “Since I started here, I continue to learn more and more from everyone around me: students and staff.”
For Sérgio, teaching English isn’t just about grammar and vocabulary—it’s about building bridges to students’ dreams. “We deal with the responsibilities and dreams brought by students from different parts of the globe,” he shares. “Through teaching the language, we help them build the bridge that leads to making their dreams come true.”
One of his most gratifying moments as a teacher is seeing students succeed. Whether it’s passing a job interview or thriving in a new occupation, these achievements fuel his passion for education.

Tips for Students
Sérgio has sage advice for both current and future SEDA students. For those already in Ireland: “Experience this opportunity responsibly, stay focused on your goals, and STUDY.” For those preparing to join: “Come open to a world of learning and to discover the different selves that live within you.”
Sérgio encourages everyone to learn about Ireland’s history and culture while embracing the friendly nature of its people. “Travelling within the Emerald Isle is a very enjoyable experience,” he says. Whether it’s Galway, Dublin, or the stunning countryside, Ireland offers endless opportunities for discovery.
A Life of Opportunity and Gratitude
For Sérgio, life truly is an open book. His journey from student to teacher, his love for language, and his dedication to helping others succeed are just a few chapters of a story filled with opportunity and gratitude.
So, whether you’re attending one of his classes in Dublin or joining the Junior Summer Programme in Galway, one thing is certain: with Sérgio as your teacher, you’re in for an inspiring and transformative experience.
Welcome to SEDA College, where dreams take flight and learning knows no bounds.
