Let’s get to know Lais and her story!
From Brazil to Ireland: A Journey of Purpose
Lais hails from Brazil and has called Ireland home for the past three years. Her love for the English language began at the age of 11 and has only grown since. While she initially worked as a lawyer for six years, she found herself yearning for something more fulfilling.
“The lack of purpose made me switch careers and start teaching English. This is my true passion,” she explains.
Lais’s decision to pursue a career in education was driven by her desire for personal growth and her dream of teaching English in an English-speaking country. Ireland, with its rich educational landscape, became the perfect place for her to realise that dream.

Life at SEDA: A Dynamic Role
As Director of Studies, Lais plays a vital role in ensuring students and teachers have the best possible experience at SEDA College.
“My day is very interactive, busy, and atypical, which makes the role so interesting,” Lais says.
Her work involves maintaining the quality of the lessons, supporting students, and acting as a bridge between teachers and school management. For Lais, it’s all about making a positive impact.
“I love my job because I’m a people person. Having the possibility to improve someone’s day enhances the purpose of working and living here.”
One of her proudest achievements? Being accepted to three prestigious universities in Ireland (TCD, UCD, and UL), as well as universities in the UK and New Zealand—a dream five years in the making!
Falling in Love with Ireland
Ireland has become a second home for Lais. From its lush green landscapes and historic architecture to its traditional pubs and cultural richness, Lais has embraced everything the Emerald Isle has to offer.
“Ireland feels like part of myself now. It’s a bridge between my life here and in Brazil,” she reflects.
Her favourite spots include St. Stephen’s Green, Phoenix Park, and the Dublinia Museum from her time in Dublin. While she’s still exploring Cork, she highly recommends a visit to the stunning Blarney Castle and Gardens.
Growing at SEDA and in Ireland
Living in Ireland and working at SEDA have shaped Lais’s perspective on life in profound ways.
“I believe I have grown a lot personally and professionally. Working at SEDA reflects who I am—a Brazilian in Ireland, helping others transition smoothly into Irish society.”
Her advice to current international students?
“Immerse yourself in Irish culture, speak English, and embrace the way of life here.”
For those considering studying in Ireland, Lais encourages them to take the leap.
“You won’t regret it. Ireland has its own way of making you stay. The Irish are warm, kind, and always willing to help. I’ve felt so supported since arriving here, and I’m incredibly grateful.”
Lais describes SEDA College in three words: purpose, beautiful, and embracing.
And here’s a fun fact—she’s a cat lover with a deep curiosity about different cultures and experiences. “I believe our differences unite us more than our similarities, because it reflects God’s diversity.”
