During the exchange, most students seek to get some work experience abroad and also to take advantage of the chance to work as an intern in Ireland, which contributes a lot to their career.

SEDA College has assisted a lot of students with the school’s internship program, launched in 2012. By 2018, 87 students completed the application and were eligible to participate in the program. 57 of those were given an opportunity to work in an Irish company through SEDA College.

The reasons why some exchange students have not been able to get a position as an intern are several, such as finding another job, returning to their home countries, among others. In addition, there are still some applications being processed.

SEDA College has contact with more than 90 Irish companies, and in 2018, students started their internships in 26 of them, in eight different sectors: administration, marketing, technology, engineering, catering, hospitality, accounting, and architecture.

“It’s very important and rewarding to open this door for our students, especially when it helps developing their skills and their career. We had another year of success with the internship program.” Says SEDA College CEO Tiago Mascarenhas.

After contacting the program coordinator and sending their CV, the students receive an email with the vacancies that are currently open. After choosing the opportunities that interest them, job interviews are scheduled. If approved, the students are ready to begin their internship in Ireland!

The internships are part-time and can be done in the free time of classes. Full-time opportunities are only available during school holidays. The duration can vary from 4 weeks to 6 months.

The internship doesn’t pay any salary, but it’s important to remember that the vacancies do exist, so there is a chance that a company will hire after the end of this program.

WHO CAN APPLY?

The application is free, but to participate in SEDA College’s internship program you must:

• Be a student at SEDA College;
• Be enrolled in a long-term course (6 months);
• Have at least an intermediate level of English;
• Have at least 85% attendance;
• Have the IRP (Student Visa).
