How to make a decision?

You just need to know what you want for your life and then make the choice that suits you better to reach that goal. Sounds easy right? Well, it is easy but in our daily life the influence of people that surround us can affect our decisions and this is how “complicated” things appear.

When you think you have made your decision, then another person comes to tell you that this is not good for you. You might think they are right because this person is close to you, it could be your family or friend, but suddenly another person tells you that your decision is wonderful and there you are again full of doubts. The thing is that you can’t make a decision based on what the others say because they will tell you what was good for them or what they would do in your position but they aren’t you! I am just 23 years old and in my humble opinion, whatever you choose, for sure, there is going to be a reaction.

You have probably already heard; there are no good or bad decisions just follow your instinct, understand your fear, what can be the worst-case scenario? , stay calm, do a list of options, who is going to be affected? , etc. However, are they serious? How come you are staying calm if any decision could change the future or destiny of your life? Of course, I am not saying that you should have a panic attack! By contrast, what you really need is to be honest with yourself; no one knows you better than yourself. There is a small thing in our heads called conscience, it is said to be effective since ancient times, even older than Pinocchio! For those who do not know what I am talking about Oxford dictionary says: “Conscience: A person’s moral sense of right and wrong, viewed as acting as a guide to one’s behaviour”.

In conclusion, what you need to make a decision is a bit of courage, honesty and conscience, in the end everything you choose is what defines who you are and who you want to be.

My decision

In 2015 I had finished my career and I got the opportunity to do an internship in and important company in Mexico. After 6 months of internship, I would have had the opportunity to get the job. How did I get that opportunity? Well, I am an Engineer in Business Management and at that time, I already had a high level of English, and they were looking for someone with my profile. But when I got that news I already had my ticket to go to Ireland and improve my English in SEDA College… I did not ask for any advice, but people are very generous and some of them told me not to go to Ireland, because I did not know anyone there and nothing was secure. On the other hand, stay safe and sound with a future job surrounded by family and friends, sounds to me like a comfort zone!

I knew that my decision would completely change my life and I said to myself, It is expected for me to work the rest of my life wherever I am so, why not do what just some of us dare to do? I know that I am not the first person that try something new and unexpected but for me it is not enough to know it, I wanted to see the world on my own. One year and a half has passed after that decision, everybody forgot that they gave me their opinion about what I should have done but I will never regret what I chose,  and still here I am in Ireland taking my fate into my own hands.
