But stay calm, there is no reason to despair, because overall there are no major changes, and this post will help you to clarify any questions you may have. Here&#8217;s all you need to know about changing from GNIB to IRP in Ireland:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IMPORTANT: Do not apply for your Irish Residence Permit (IRP) until you need to renew. Your existing registration certificate (GNIB card) remains valid until it expires.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New card. New design.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new Irish Residence Permit (IRP) is based on EU standards, including:<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New design, based on EU colour and layout rules.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New information, including a brief description of your immigration permission.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New features, including robust security and identity protection.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u00a0<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5304 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/seda.college\/wp-content\/uploads\/g2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"340\" \/>What an Irish Residence Permit (IRP) looks like<\/h3>\n<p>The Irish Residence Permit (IRP) is a credit-card sized plastic card that displays basic information about you. This includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your name, photo, date of birth and registration number<\/li>\n<li>A brief description of your immigration permission, including your permission stamp number.<\/li>\n<li>A microchip with a copy of your photo, fingerprints and personal details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New card. Same rules.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The IRP does not give you any new rights or entitlements.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, an IRP does not allow you to travel to or live freely in other EU countries. All existing travel and immigration rules still apply.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5305 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/seda.college\/wp-content\/uploads\/g3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"517\" height=\"268\" \/><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New process.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you live in Dublin, you will receive your IRP by post after you register from now on. It will not be given to you at your registration appointment.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The process outside Dublin has not changed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.inis.gov.ie\/en\/INIS\/Pages\/registration\">CLICK HERE <\/a>TO REGISTER.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Same responsibilities.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your responsibilities for the new IRP are the same as your old registration certificate (GNIB card).<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, you must carry your IRP with you all times and present it to an immigration officer or a member of An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na (police) if requested. This includes whenever you leave or re-enter the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">About the Irish Residence Permit (IRP)<\/span><\/h3>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An Irish Residence Permit (IRP) indicates:<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That your immigration permission to stay in Ireland has been registered.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The type of immigration permission you have, ie stamp number.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The IRP is not an identity card. It is a registration certificate.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>It is not valid for any reason except to certify that you are registered with immigration in Ireland.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Who needs an Irish Residence Permit (IRP)<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are a non-EU\/EEA and non-Swiss citizen and you wish to stay in Ireland for any reason for longer than 90 days, you must apply for immigration permission and (if successful) then register.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your registration is successful, you will then be issued with an Irish Residence Permit (IRP).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To register you must:<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be a non-EU\/EEA and non-Swiss national.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be aged 16 or older.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Go to a registration office in-person.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you wish to stay in Ireland past the expiry date on your IRP, you must apply to extend your immigration permission and renew your registration.
