It’s English, but make it Irish<\/h2>\n

The English spoken in Ireland is shaped by centuries of history, Gaelic influence, and a cultural personality unlike anywhere else in the English-speaking world. “Jaysus”<\/strong> \u2014 a softened expression of surprise, disbelief, or mild exasperation. You’ll hear this everywhere, from the most dramatic moments to the most trivial ones.<\/p>\n

“Your man” \/ “Your woman”<\/strong> \u2014 this does not refer to anyone’s romantic partner. It’s simply a casual way of pointing someone out. “Your man at the bar”<\/em> just means “that guy at the bar.”<\/em> Context is everything.<\/p>\n

“Banjaxed”<\/strong> \u2014 broken, ruined, completely out of order. It can describe a phone, a plan, or how you feel after a big week of classes, city exploration, and late nights.<\/p>\n

“Deadly”<\/strong> \u2014 one of the most misleading ones. In Ireland, deadly<\/em> means brilliant, amazing, fantastic. If someone calls something deadly, take it as a compliment.<\/p>\n
